The visionary Carl Friedrich Bucherer founded his first watch business in 1988 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Initially he was still involved in the production of precious jewellery, but specialised in watches shortly after.
While his first watch collection in 1919 was still entirely dedicated to the art deco design and brought with it the innovation of various bracelets, the company focussed on the production of sporty chronographs since 1948.
The fact that the company was completely family-owned since its founding in 1988 is reflected by the individual but nevertheless classic design of the Bucherer watches.
At Bucherers functions are simple and straightforward, but complications such as ‘turbillon’, ‘perpetual calendar’, ‘ third time zone’ and many more complex watch functions are no foreign word for the watch brand.
The Bucherer family has made an immense contribution to the development of many of today's “normal functions”.
Thus they were involved in the development of the first ‘quartz’ movement. Countless patents were registered, and what is rare today, after more than 100 years, is that they still produce almost all of their own basic calibers.
Today, Carl F. Butcherer is one of the few watch brands that have managed to carry on the art of this craft in the course of its own development and the evolution of the market itself, and not to exchange them with mechanised processes.
